JBM artists at Ryedale Festival this summer
JBM artists Imogen Whitehead (trumpet) and Laura van der Heijden (cello) are Artists in Residence at the Ryedale Festival 2026, which runs from 10–26 July in Yorkshire.
“At the heart of the programme are five artistic residencies. John Wilson and the Sinfonia of London begin a three-year partnership with an unmissable celebration of English music. Trumpeter Imogen Whitehead shares her passion for the flugelhorn, including a brand-new concerto. The Gesualdo Six set out on a choral journey across the county. The Van Baerle Trio bring Brahms and Shostakovich into vivid conversation. And cellist Laura van der Heijden leads a wonderfully varied series of musical encounters.”
– Christopher Glynn, Artistic Director
Highlights of Imogen Whitehead’s residency include a recital with organist Rachel Mahon in the striking setting of Ampleforth Abbey, as well as two duo recitals with harpist Olivia Jageurs exploring a programme of Songs of Love, Loss & Protest. She will also give the world premiere of a new concerto for flugelhorn by Gabriel Jackson with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Charlotte Corderoy.
Laura van der Heijden’s residency features a wide range of performances, including a solo recital and Dances and Duos — a programme joined by a cimbalom (a Hungarian hammered dulcimer) that brings together an evocative journey through folk, jazz, Baroque music and more. Laura will also close the festival in the Final Gala Concert, performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Artistic Partner of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Maria Włoszczowska will lead and direct the orchestra as a nonet, playing Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 in D.
