Jess Gillam Ensemble

Formed in 2020, the Jess Gillam Ensemble is a vibrant collective of musicians united by a shared spirit of curiosity and joy in live performance. Jess’ imaginative, wide-ranging programmes bring together composers as diverse as Anna Meredith, JS Bach, Björk and Duke Ellington. The size and line-up of the band is dictated by the music they are playing, often sitting around eight players – think string quartet meets jazz trio. Jess performs regularly in a Trio with piano and bass for more intimate performances, still showcasing the same wide-ranging spirit and repertoire of the larger group.

Rooted in the classical tradition but unafraid to cross musical boundaries, the Ensemble’s bold and uplifting approach creates a truly vibrant concert experience. They have captivated audiences across the UK and Europe with their infectious energy, appearing to sold-out audiences at Wigmore Hall, Mozartfest Augsburg, Bath Festival and Latitude Festival.

Jess’ chart-topping 2020 album TIME featured the Ensemble and marked their acclaimed recording debut, followed most recently by appearances on her 2025 PRISM series.

Beyond the concert platform, Jess is passionate about inspiring the next generation of musicians – with the Ensemble leading workshops, masterclasses and education programmes in schools and universities, and creating performances designed especially for young audiences.
Recent and upcoming highlights include performances at Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Harrogate International Festivals, Saffron Hall and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music.
