Laura van der Heijden begins residence at Ryedale Festival
Cellist Laura van der Heijden begins her Artist in Residence series at the Ryedale Festival this evening, opening a week of specially curated performances across some of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful venues.
The residency opens tonight with the Festival’s much-loved “Triple Concert” at Castle Howard, where Laura is joined by violinist Max Baillie, cimbalom player Marcel Comendant and double bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado for “Dances and Duos”, an eclectic programme inspired by folk, jazz, baroque music and beyond. Alongside performances by the Aris Quartet and Dowland’s Foundry, audiences will enjoy three contrasting concerts across the evening.
Tomorrow morning, Laura reunites with pianist and regular chamber music partner Tom Poster for “The Swan” at Birdsall House, performing music by Debussy, Ravel, Franck and Saint-Saëns, including the much-loved “The Swan”.
On 24 July, Laura presents “Fall of the Leaf”, an intimate solo recital at St Mary’s Church, Lastingham. Following the sell out of the morning performance, an additional afternoon recital has been added due to popular demand, giving even more audiences the opportunity to experience this special programme.
Laura’s residency concludes on 26 July with the Festival’s “Final Gala Concert” at Hovingham Hall, performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major with Royal Northern Sinfonia to bring this year’s Festival to a celebratory close.
