Maria Włoszczowska has joined the Chamber Orchestra of Europe as Director and Leader, a position she will share with violinist Lorenza Borrani. This accolade follows her stepping in to direct the ensemble across four concerts with varied repertoire at last week’s Kronberg Festival, as well as directing and leading them at Mozartwoche Salzburg earlier this year, all to huge success. Maria has commented: “What an adventure to look forward to! I’m so grateful to the COE for their trust, openness and warmth. To be welcomed with such a positive spirit by a group I’ve listened to and admired most of my life is a dream come true.”

As of this season, Maria has also taken up her post as Artistic Partner of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, a position that was created especially for her and in which she has joined the artistic leadership of the RNS together with Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa and Director of Royal Northern Sinfonia & Classical Programme James Thomas, developing her influence on the programme with a focus on directing, solo and chamber work. Programmes she directs in the current season are centred around works such as Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht and Pierrot Lunaire, Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Schubert’s Symphony No. 5, and J.S. Bach’s Violin Concertos.
