We are delighted to announce that Karl-Heinz Steffens’ contract as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra has been extended until the end of June 2027. Steffens started his position in Norrköping in August 2020 in the middle of the pandemic giving them a ‘special start’. Steffens comments that they have since ‘grown together both musically and artistically…I feel that the orchestra has strongly developed in all aspects and we will now continue to work together to achieve the highest standard of performance and musical expression’.

NSO’s Artistic Director, Henrik Marmén comments that ‘during the years that Karl-Heinz Steffens led the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra has a more cohesive and warmer sound. But above all, Karl-Heinz has succeeded in making all musicians feel seen and important. It gives motivation and commitment to everyone, from the first to the last desk, which can be both seen and heard at the concerts.’

There are many interesting projects in the pipeline for NSO and Steffens and their first recordings together will be released soon. This summer, the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and Karl-Heinz Steffens will go on an international tour for the first time in many years. The orchestra will perform a programme of Grieg and Beethoven with soloist Benjamin Grosvenor at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Friedberg’s St. Jakob’s Parish Church and Rothenberghalle.
