Grosvenor’s week in Cologne
Tonight, Benjamin Grosvenor performs the final of three concerts of Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Gürzenich Orchestra, conducted by Elim Chan.
The programme has been greeted warmly by the Cologne audience over the last few days: “Grosvenor presented the demanding part with orchestra with aplomb and particular strength in the lyrical passages” (Kölnische Rundschau).
Grosvenor returns to the City this Sunday for a solo recital at Köln Philharmonie featuring both Chopin’s Second Sonata and Prokofiev’s Seventh Sonata.
Before that – this Saturday morning – he performs a special programme of the Brett Dean Homage Etudes as part of a day dedicated to the composer at the Wigmore Hall, which includes a UK Premiere (Faustian Pact – written for and dedicated to Benjamin).
Other European recitals highlights this season include in Darmstadt, his debut at Tauberphilharmonie, Nohant Chopin Festival, Flâneries Musicales de Reims and at Klavier-Festival Ruhr on 3 July.
