Performing the last notes ever written by the composer, this week Alpesh Chauhan conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Bruckner’s 9th Symphony at Glasgow City Halls and The Glasshouse in Gateshead. With the two hundredth anniversary of his birth just around the corner in September, the concert at The Glasshouse brings to a close the ‘Big Bruckner Weekend’, celebrating an eminent composer, often unduly eclipsed by his contemporaries. This is off the back of Alpesh’s recent debuts with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Oslo Philharmonic. Having built a special relationship with the BBC SSO, June 2023 saw the release of Alpesh’s debut album with the orchestra featuring works by Tchaikovsky. His latest Chandos disc in the series continues to explore with the BBC SSO the rich treasure trove of Tchaikovsky’s orchestral works and will be released on 15th March. Pre-orders are available here. Hear Alpesh himself talk about this on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ with Katie Derham.

Recently nominated for an RPS award in the conductor category, supported by Schott Music, Alpesh looks forward to debuts this spring with the Atlanta and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, and to Brahms’ first piano concerto with soloist Stephen Hough and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, of which Alpesh is Principal Guest Conductor.
