The Royal Northern Sinfonia has announced that Maria Włoszczowska is to become Artistic Partner from autumn 2024, a role created especially for her. The orchestra’s leader for the past two years, Maria has also directed a number of programmes with repertoire including Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and Bartok’s Divertimento for String Orchestra in that time. With this new position, Maria joins the artistic leadership of the ensemble together with Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa and Director of Royal Northern Sinfonia & Classical Programme James Thomas, developing her influence on the programme with a focus on directing, solo and chamber work.

Maria will next direct the RNS in a programme featuring Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante (Timothy Ridout, viola), Lera Auerbach’s Sogno di Stabat Mater and Mahler’s reworking of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet on 13 October.
