Christopher Moulds returns to Munich
This Spring sees Christopher Moulds return to the Bayerische Staatsoper to conduct Cavalli’s La Calisto and Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. Opening this Sunday 19 March and followed by three further performances, David Alden’s production of La Calisto stars Mary Bevan (Calisto), Milan Siljanov (Giove), Teresa Iervolino (Diana) and Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen (Endimione).
Il ritorno / The Year of Magical Thinking premieres on Sunday 8 May at the Cuvilliés Theatre and is followed by five further performances. The Christopher Rüping production interweaves Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria with Joan Didion’s autobiographical work The Year of Magical Thinking, in an exploration of grief and loss. Ritorno stars Charles Daniels (Ulisse) and Kristina Hammarström (Penelope) as well as members of the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Monteverdi Continuo Ensemble.
