Celebrated performers in concert halls and sacred spaces on both sides of the Atlantic, the Eric Whitacre Singers draw audiences with a wide spectrum of age, interests and backgrounds.  The choir performs music from the Renaissance to contemporary, including works written by their founder and conductor, Eric Whitacre. Together they have received exceptional praise from critics and won a GRAMMY® award for Best Choral Performance for their debut album, Light & Gold on Decca/Universal. Their second album, Water Night went straight to no. 1 in the classical iTunes and Billboard charts. Regularly recording in London’s Abbey Road and Air Studios, the choir feature on Eric’s own label, UNQUIET, and on the soundtracks of Hollywood movies.

The Eric Whitacre Singers made their BBC Proms debut in a diverse programme that included a collaboration with singer/songwriter Imogen Heap, and performed with Annie Lennox at the Templeton Prize Laureate Ceremony to honour Archbishop Desmond Tutu. They have performed regularly with British soul superstar Laura Mvula, guesting at iTunes Festival, broadcast live to 119 countries, with both Laura Mvula and Hans Zimmer.

The Singers have toured the US and across Europe but perform most often in their home city, London, often choosing a charity that can benefit from funds raised.  In 2019, they presented the European premiere of Eric Whitacre’s The Sacred Veil in two performances in London with guest soloists, Jeffrey Zeigler (cello) and Christopher Glynn (piano).  Money raised was donated towards the excellent work of Maggie’s cancer care. Other charities that the EWS have worked with include Save the Children and UNICEF.

Reviews

“It’s rare to find a choir with such needlepoint accuracy and vibrating richness of tone, and under Whitacre’s alert and sensitive direction this one made some of the most rapturously beautiful sounds I’ve heard in this year’s Proms season.”

Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph
