José Salazar will make his debut with New York City Ballet next week, conducting performances of ‘Balanchine + Ratmansky’. The triple bill pairs early works by the revered choreographer George Balanchine, ‘Serenade’ and ‘Prodigal Son’, set to music by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, with ‘Paquita’ by Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky, a tribute to the classic Marius Petipa ballet. In addition to leading ‘Balanchine + Ratmansky’, José will cover NYCB Music Director Andrew Litton in ‘Masters at Work II’.

A Classic FM 2025 Rising Star and 2025/26 Dudamel Fellow with the LA Philharmonic, José has made a series of notable international appearances this season. These include his podium debuts with Greek National Opera Ballet (‘Giselle’) and The Royal Ballet (‘La fille mal gardée’), and a return to Birmingham Royal Ballet for ‘The Nutcracker’. José will also return to The Royal Ballet this summer to conduct further performances of ‘La fille mal gardée’ at Covent Garden and on tour in Asia.
