Jonathan Stockhammer performs across Europe
Jonathan Stockhammer takes to the podium in Oslo tonight with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra at Ultima Festival. Tonight, the festival, a celebration of cutting-edge contemporary music, will see the world premiere of Norwegian composer Henrik Hellstenuis’ “ ..and fear of loss will not oppress your heart” for orchestra, with Ellen Ugelvik on piano and Jennifer Torrence on percussion, as well as Sara Nemtsov’s ‘Black Trees’, and Witold Lutoslawski’s ‘Mala-suite’ at the famous NRK Store Studio.
Next week, Jonathan returns to Ensemble Modern at Warsaw Autumn, Poland’s largest international festival of contemporary music. Jonathan and the orchestra will perform a programme of new commissions by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Warsaw Autumn Festival including Arash Yazdani’s ‘Shimmering of White Phosphorus’, Katarina Gryvul’ ‘Skvyrk’ – for amplified ensemble, buchla easel, played by the composer herself, and electronics, and Anna Sowa’s ‘Friction of the Wooden Dragon’. They will also perform Alex Paxton’s ‘Don’t Leave Me Behind for large ensemble’, commissioned by Wigmore Hall, Ensemble Modern and Philharmonie Essen, and Anda Kryeziu’s ‘Infuse: Playtime’.
